DSD’s 6.5 MW Solar Portfolio for Caesars Entertainment Wins 2025 Environment + Energy Leader Award

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — April 1, 2025 — DSD Renewables’ (DSD) 6.5 MW solar portfolio for Caesars Entertainment in Atlantic City has been named a Top Project of the Year winner in the 2025 Environment + Energy Leader Awards. The E+E Leader Project Awards is an annual program recognizing excellence in projects implemented by companies that improved environmental or energy management outcomes and increased the bottom line.

The portfolio, designed to power Caesars Entertainment’s operations across its  Atlantic City destinations, demonstrates the feasibility of large-scale solar installations in energy-intensive urban environments. By generating 9,700 MWh of clean energy annually, the portfolio meets 5.5% of Caesars’ total Atlantic City properties’ energy needs with solar, helping to meet renewable energy goals while reducing reliance on the local utility – a big benefit to local grid stability with Caesars being one of the largest energy consumers in the region.

The five-installation portfolio includes 1.7 MW and 886 kW solar garage canopies at Caesars Atlantic City, a 1.9 MW solar canopy at Harrah’s self-park garage, a 1.9 MW canopy at Harrah’s valet garage, and a 960.9 kW rooftop solar canopy system at Harrah’s Waterfront Conference Center, which will be installed in 2025.

“We’re honored to be recognized by E+E Leader, and hopefully projects like these inspire other hotels, resorts, and energy intensive operations to get started on their own renewable energy journeys, showing that these projects are very much in reach.”

With the existing structural layout, building heights, and close proximity to the coast, the installations were custom-designed to withstand high wind loads and harsh coastal weather conditions, and complex approval processes were required from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Casino Redevelopment Authority. Additionally, the 24/7 operations of the resort and casino required construction had to be meticulously coordinated with Caesars property managers to avoid disruptions to operations and the guest experience.

“It’s great to see that, by leveraging an innovative design and development approach, our team was able to deliver Caesars such a unique and impactful portfolio,” says Dan O’Brien, SVP Energy Solutions at DSD Renewables. “We’re honored to be recognized by E+E Leader, and hopefully projects like these inspire other hotels, resorts, and energy intensive operations to get started on their own renewable energy journeys, showing that these projects are very much in reach.”

The successful execution of the portfolio reinforces Caesars Entertainment’s and DSD Renewables’ commitment to sustainability and innovation, setting a precedent for renewable energy deployment within the hospitality and entertainment industries.
