DSD Renewables teams up with SPURR to bring economical solar and energy storage to California’s public agencies
At DSD Renewables, a key part of our mission is to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy resources, which is why we’re always looking for ways to make it more accessible. One such way is our recent partnership with the School Project for Utility Rate Reduction (SPURR), a California joint powers authority, to help public agencies—like public school districts, county offices of education, and college district members—save on energy costs with solar and energy storage solutions.
If you’re a public agency in California, this partnership opens up a world of benefits that make going solar simpler, more economical, and more efficient. Thanks to this new partnership, you’ll be able to access competitively-sourced pricing, streamlined procurement, and zero upfront costs through the Renewable Energy Aggregated Procurement (REAP) program.
Why SPURR & DSD Renewables?
SPURR has been helping public agencies in California since 2014, streamlining their adoption of solar and energy storage through group purchasing power. By joining forces with DSD, they’ve made it easier for you to go green and save big. Through a competitive selection process, SPURR chose DSD as the winning vendor because of our track record of success, our ability to offer best-in-market pricing, and our expertise in designing, engineering, financing, and executing solar and storage projects.
To date, DSD has deployed more than 70 MW of solar energy across California, including a 5.6 MW portfolio for the San Bernardino City Unified School District. That’s just one example of how we’ve been helping public school districts, county offices of education, and college district members benefit from renewables. Now, we’re excited to extend that expertise to over 340 SPURR member agencies through this partnership.
How does the REAP program work?
The REAP program offers a huge benefit to eligible agencies: competitively-sourced pricing and favorable terms that you won’t find anywhere else. Here’s how it works:
- No upfront capital costs: Thanks to a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) model, you won’t need to make any upfront investment. Once the contract is signed you’ll start seeing savings on your energy bill immediately.
- Streamlined process: SPURR’s cooperative procurement model takes the headache out of the process. You can skip the long procurement cycles and access competitive pricing through a process already designed for public agencies.
- Free feasibility studies: Before making any decisions, you’ll get a free project feasibility study that shows you exactly how much you can save and what your environmental impact will look like. It’s a great way to ensure you’re making a smart investment in renewable energy.
- Ongoing support: We’re with you every step of the way. From design and installation to long-term operations and maintenance (O&M), we handle it all—making sure your systems perform reliably year after year.
The power of renewable energy
The benefits of solar and energy storage are clear: reducing energy costs, meeting California’s renewable energy mandates, and helping to create a cleaner, more sustainable future for our communities. By partnering with DSD, SPURR is giving public agencies the chance to take control of their energy future, while significantly cutting down on utility expenses.
“We’re excited to have the opportunity to deliver economical solar and storage solutions to public school districts, county offices of education, and college district members across California. This partnership helps us expand our impact across the state and helps public agencies start saving on energy costs immediately and advance their decarbonization goals.”
– Jacob Hoheim, Senior Director of Origination, DSD Renewables
