DSD Acquires Two Community Solar Projects from Mainely Solar, Totaling 11.79 MWs
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – (January 18, 2022) – DSD Renewables (DSD) has acquired a pair of ground-mounted community solar projects in Southwest Maine from Mainely Solar totaling 11.79 MWs. The projects will generate an estimated 15,508,284 kWh of renewable energy each year, avoiding approximately 10,990 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent annually.
Mainely Solar is a Maine-based leading DG developer co-founded by Dave Fowler and Sachin Patel, both of whom have roots in utility scale development. DSD’s relationship with Mainely Solar began when DSD was selected as the solar provider by the Town of Sharon, MA where Patel, served on the Energy Advisory Committee. The relationship between the two companies has continued to grow as Mainely Solar advances its pipeline of DG projects.
The ground-mount projects will avoid the equivalent of 10,990 metric tons of CO2 annually — roughly the same emissions caused by burning 1.2M gallons of gasoline each year.
“Besides being a great team, DSD is among the most efficient deployers of DG infrastructure capital and we look forward to working with them for implementing our Maine projects and LastMile Energy’s pipeline in other markets,” said Patel, Co-Founder of Mainely Solar, who also owns Massachusetts-based developer LastMile Energy.
The projects, a 5.24 MW system located in Rumford and 6.55 MW system located in Windham, are both permitted and are expected to commence construction in Q2 2022. As part of the Maine Net Energy Billing Tariff Rate program, all subscriptions will go to commercial customers. The program provides dollar credits on participating customers’ electricity bills.
“Businesses in Southwest Maine can now reap the benefits of clean renewable energy and offset a portion of their monthly electricity bill,” says Jon Morton, Vice President of Asset Acquisitions at DSD. “This is only the beginning of an impactful partnership and we look forward to working on future projects together.”
Mainely Solar worked in partnership with PPL Renewables to develop the projects.
